Providing a safe, inclusive supportive space that nurtures creative self-expression, connection and empowerment, thereby leading to greater insight, agency, growth and wholeness

Hello,

Cody here!

(he/him)

I am a queer creative arts therapist and psychotherapist. I am passionate about supporting people from all walks of life to thrive. I invite and implement creative arts-based processes to facilitate self-expression, self-awareness and personal development in authentic, imaginative ways. I adopt a strengths-based, person-centred, approach and work closely with individuals intentions, allowing space for inquiry, exploration and meaning making. Working alongside people as a fellow traveller, I assist them in achieving their goals, to feel empowered and to convey their embodied, emotional and cognitive experiences through different mediums and modalities including but not limited to drawing, painting, collage, dance and movement, storytelling and play.

What Is Art Therapy?

Creativity and self-expression are an intrinsic part of the human experience. Historically we have danced, sang, sculpted, painted, adorned ourselves, and told our stories in service of communicating, sharing knowledge and wisdom, expressing and moving emotions, bonding and healing. We possess an innate need to create.

Art making and creative expression has the potential to be relaxing, engaging and can bring us into the present moment. It can help us to connect with ourselves and others. The intrinicsally healing and regulatory benefits that can arise from creating can be referred to as art-as-therapy.

Engaging in art therapy can enhance these benefits further, with a focus on the creative process and the exploration of the subconcious material that can arise. Creative arts-based processes allow for self-expression, self-awareness and personal development. It enables you to take a step back and view things objectively and/or to zoom in and examine an issue closer to unpack it within the safe and contained therapeutic space.

You do not have to have any prior art making experience or consider yourself to be creative to participate and benefit. Importantly, Art Therapy is for EVERY BODY.

NDIS Services

NDIS participants should feel included, empowered and have autonomy over the types of supports they access & recieve. Art therapy can help to facilitate progress through participant’s development physically, socially, and psychologically.

Sessions offer opportunities for both verbal and non-verbal expression and communication through movement, sound, writing, and expressive arts. They provides tools and processes to promote self-regulation and coregulation through the therapeutic alliance.

Importantly, participants are able to make choices, express themselves, and create something meaningful, fostering a sense of accomplishment and self-efficacy.

Supporting NDIS participants who are self managed or plan managed, I offer services under Therapeutic supports (capacity building, improved daily living) for children and adults. Sessions can be arranged via telehealth, at my Wollert studio or at participant’s home/residency in Melbourne’s north.

If you would like to know more as an NDIS participant, carer or support coordinator, get in touch. I’d love to hear from you!
